WHAT OUR
STUDENTS SAY

I PASSED 1ST TIME!
EJ

Richard is an amazing instructor — he was amazingly laid back and made me feel really calm and confident. I passed first time! I couldn't recommend him enough.

TELL ME

Brakes should not feel spongy or slack. Test them as you set off — the vehicle should not pull to one side.
Use a reliable pressure gauge when tyres are cold. Check the manufacturer's recommended pressures (in the handbook) and adjust as needed, including the spare. Don't forget to refit the valve caps.
The head restraint should be adjusted so the rigid part is at least as high as the eye or top of the ears, and as close to the back of the head as is comfortable.
No cuts or bulges, and at least 1.6mm of tread depth across the central three-quarters of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire outer circumference.
Operate the switch (turning the ignition on if necessary), then walk round the vehicle to check.
A warning light should illuminate on the dashboard if there is a fault with the ABS.
Operate the switch (turn the ignition on if necessary) and walk round the vehicle to check all indicators.
Operate the brake pedal, make use of reflections in windows or doors, or ask someone to help.
Gentle pressure on the wheel while starting the engine and a slight movement just after pulling away will confirm it is working.
Operate the switch (turning on dipped headlights and ignition if necessary). Use only when visibility is seriously reduced — generally less than 100 metres.
Operate the switch (with ignition or engine on, dipped headlights selected) and check the main beam warning light on the dashboard.

SHOW ME

Operate the heated rear windscreen switch — usually with the ignition or engine on.
Press the centre of the steering wheel where the horn symbol is.
Set the heater controls to demist the front windscreen, including the fan and air direction.
Press the hazard warning light switch on the dashboard — both indicators flash together.
Operate the headlight switch to the dipped beam position and check the dashboard warning light.
